Mary’s Cakes and Pastries, LLC is owned and managed by Mary Cesar. Mary has a B.A. in literature, having also studied art, art history, and teacher preparation. She worked in commercial kitchens in France as an apprentice and attended classes at the University of Paris X in Nanterre (a suburb north of Paris).
Mary earned an M.B.A. in marketing and finance from Fordham University in New York. After over 15 years as a business consultant, Mary returned to college to earn a culinary diploma from Culinard in Birmingham, Alabama. She also completed a certification class in wedding cake design and decoration.
While in culinary school, Mary worked in a commercial kitchen in a variety of capacities, including kitchen manager and sous-chef. Upon graduation, she accepted a job as wedding cake designer and assistant manager at It Takes The Cake Bakery & Catering in Tuscaloosa, Alabama where she designed and decorated hundreds of wedding and celebration cakes. She was also an adjunct professor in the culinary arts program at Shelton State Community College in Tuscaloosa.
About our sign:
Steve Davis of Sunheart Metalworks designed our sign. Steve is a self-taught metalsmith, who brings to life ferrous and non-ferrous metals using a variety of contemporary and traditional techniques. His work with individuals, designers, and architects strives to engage the eye, mind, and heart of the observer. Steve is the creator of various streetscape projects in downtown Northport, AL.
