Edible Flowers for Cakes

Lattice Cake
Lattice cake with fresh fruit and flowers

Many of the wedding and celebration cakes we bake are decorated with fresh flowers. Your florist will be able to tell you which flowers are edible and can be placed on a cake and which flowers are toxic and should be avoided.

Gum paste flowers are always safe choices, and offer keepsake value as well. Gum paste, also called patillage or sugar paste, can be molded into almost any shape. When dry, gum paste has the consistency of fine bone china. We offer a selection of ready-made gum paste flowers and bows. We can also make almost any flower or item to your custom order, in any color you choose.

There are several Web sites that give helpful information on poisonous plants, Here are two:

University of Illinois: http://www.library.uiuc.edu/vex/toxic/intro.htm

Cornell University: http://www.ansci.cornell.edu/plants/plants.html
